Pokemon tournaments would be way more fun if they were conducted like in Pokemon Showdown. Basically get random teams with random moves, stats, and items and battle against opponents for 5 to 7 games for victory. That way the player has to actually adapt to what he is given and use his knowledge to beat whatever the opponent has. Tournament can disallow legendary Pokemon use if need be.
