This really is the peak of Pokemon. All the good shit of early gens, none of the bloat and gimmicks of later gens, a comfy midpoint of aesthetics, and most importantly the physical/special split.

You can do gyms 5-7 and the kanto ones in any order you want.

Gyms 5-7 and their tasks can be done in any order you want. The game opens up once you get to Ecruteak and beat Morty to get Surf.

Gyms 1-7 in Kanto can be done in any order. Only Blue requires you to have beaten the rest.
