I remember at some point water used to be the most common type. I think they're trying to move away from aquatic creatures inherently being water type now.
The crab in this gen is mono rock, the octopi last gen were mono fighting, the sea urchin last gen was mono electric.

My only problem is that making them monotype makes them less interesting, unique or useful than they would be if they were partially Water type. Though it's fair with Klawf since it's a land crab.

It is the most common type still. That's why I don't understand why people sperg out so much when a remotely aquatic creature isn't water type. It's to the point that they can't justify adding pure water anymore unless they give it a wild gimmick like Wishiwashi or Palafin or Dodonzo. Just watch people spontaneously combust once they finally decide to make a pure fire fish Pokémon.
