Character designs are genuinely awful from top to bottom in this game. And they still looked good earlier this year in Legends, too. Character design has been the only strong point of these games for several years, and now we can't even have that

Why are they comparing two different template styles, and do they want EVERY [female] background character design to look like the girl on the left? That would absolutely destroy the immersion and world building for me. Like, it'd make the world feel so artificial and uncanny by video game standards. To be fair, though, this is the first time I've seen anyone caring THIS much about background NPC designs outside of visual masterpieces where the designs are meant to be special and detailed.

Oh no, she's quite ugly. But I play tons of video games, and most of them have some ugly background NPCs, so I fail to see the problem you guys are having in Pokemon. And although I typically don't really hyperfocus in on background NPCs, I do find diversity in their designs to be immersive and realistic. Otherwise, it feels boring, uncanny, and "Stepford wives"-esque to me.
