I skipped SwSh (and LGPE) and I'm about to buy Scarlet but with everything I'm seeing lately I'm starting to feel conflicted.

In all honesty, would you recommend to get Shield (base game without DLC) or Scarlet?

SV is nice, Gamefreak has been dogshit since the transition to 3D, this is pokemon now.
if you can throw some money in the bin for a new game get it, nothing wrong with it, if you actually have to ponder your spendings, just don't.
is SV fun? yeah
are the pokemon designs cool? imo, yes
is this enough to make it a great pokemon game? hell no

Legends is better than either. If you've ever played a Pokemon game before, you may as well just skip Sword and Shield. It's exactly the same shit you've seen a dozen times before, but executed worse. Scarlet and Violet have their own problems, but they're considerably more fun than Sword and Shield so far
