The game is a mess. First pokemon game I played where ai actually experienced a shit ton of glitches. Its infuriating. First they take out content and now the visuals are pure horseshit and glitchy.

I missed being able to get a video of this, but my starter leveled up enough to evolve after a Totem battle, and it DUPLICATED the model.

This may be known already, but after the lighthouse I jumped a gap by battling a pokemon on the other side and ended up in a slightly higher level area. My next quest goal is still to go to the academy but I can go wherever I want on the map, right now I'm at the top of the ice mountain. Did I skip something or is the game just more open than past entries?

You definitely skipped something, the game kind of railroads you until you go into the academy and go through the worst dialogue slogfest I've seen from modern Pokemon.
It is a lot more "open" but at the same time it's kind of obvious that the game expects you to go a set order when it comes to things.

FYI, there appears to be a memory leak issue. While it won’t fix the performance, restarting the game every couple of hours should help a little bit, especially if you see loading problems (missing textures for example).

I'm a lot more lenient of bugs for games like this. As long as there's nothing completely game breaking (like bricking a 10+ hour save), it's just a turn based Pokemon game. I was a lot more upset about playing Cyberpunk on release because bugs and jank affected you a lot more with real time gameplay.

I don't have footage but when I tried evolving my Murkrow the game got stuck on the evolution. I was just sitting there for like five minutes listening to the evolution music waiting for something to happen but nothing did. I closed the game and reopened it and thankfully that time it worked. I went through a lot of trouble to find a dusk stone so it would have sucked if it didn't work.

tl;dr its a coding issue where memory isnt reallocated and basically just gets tossed to where it isnt able to be read by any code, restarting the game frees all the memory which is why it fixes it temporarily.

Absolutely, Pokemon games have histortically had bugs but

2. said glitches (past RBY) were generally very minor things outside of something like Emerald's dupe glitch
SV bugging the fuck out at regular intervals from people just playing the game normally is far and away much worse than any prior game by several magnitudes.

This. Most of pokemon big glitches had to be caused ON PURPOSE.
I tought pokemon would never have a cyberpunk or sonic 06, but here it is, and it sucks. Even if they fix them with patches, this is the first impression, it will forever be remembered as the most disastruous pokemon game (unless they somehow make a worse one in the future).

as in, shit like leveling up and evolving eggs, learning moves to mons that shouldn't, evolving Salandit regardless of gender etc
the bike was pretty fucked up in SwSh too
