what was the first one of these in the series? first one I can think of is wild gengar in gen 4 with a gba game in the DS, but I can't think of any earlier than that (not counting the gamecube games)

First off, any Pokémon that appear in a game are just as valid as any new Pokémon, regardless of what gen they first appeared
Secondly, stones are usually found by just progressing through the game.

Nah, this is a good change. I've never liked the idea that some fully-evolved Pokemon can't actually exist naturally in the wild without humans evolving them.

I like the idea of certain Pokemon being rare without it being 1 per game and cheap low encounter rates. This is why I like shit like Lapras in Johto only being found on Fridays in 1 cave, I can't really explain why
