Shit like the battle tower, shiny hunting that wasn't fucking retarded, contests, battle royale, pokeathlon, pokestar studios, pwt, etc etc.
It's the PLA problem. What does this game have once you've completed the dex? Absolutely fucking nothing. And gamefreak's excuse for this is that you get more out of le open world, but all that boils down to is spending extra time running through barren, ugly areas
