The Nips we're churning out fanart of the Galar Starters just a few hours upon their reveal in Japan

So what's the deal here? Are Paldea starters not received well over in Japan or something?

I thought that at least the Cat would get droves of art by now?

Galar had hits and misses

Paldea has all misses besides the Snail, Ceruledge, Armorouge, and Roaring Moon (which I don't really count since it's a just a glorified regional variant of an older Pokémon)

This the first generation where I literally have trouble actually building a solid team

Because contrary to popular belief, humanoid Pokémon aren't as organically popular as people think they are.

Lucario, Gardevoir, and Cinderace were shillmon who were shoved into every fucking thing to the point people were basically forced to love them.

Incineroar used to be the least popular alolan starter in japan until TPC started shilling the fuck out of it and screwing over Decidueye in the process (he's also the reason why most japanese fans didn't want Sprigatito to stand up in the first place)

Literally the only humanoid Pokemon in recent years that I can think of that got popular in japan without being constantly shilled are Inteleon and Braixen

Unless Meowscarada gets the same treatment as Lucario/Incineroar/Cinderace/Greninja did, it'll likely end up falling into obscurity the same way Delphox did

Gardevoir is ok mostly due to typing. Inteleon and Primarina are both Japanese stereotypes and the people of Japan only like what they're familiar with so it's no surprise that they'd be popular

Quaquaval's design and concept are way too foreign (Western) for them so I'm not surprised that it isn't as well received as the 2 previous gen water starters were

The Pokémon and especially the character designs look like absolute shit.
You can typically get over shit looking Pokémon because the characters at least are interesting enough but now not even that looks good and you can thank fujo art directors for that.

These 3 somehow have even less synergy with each other than the Galar starters. At least they contrasted with each other in a way where it could be kinda funny to image how they'd all interact with each other

It somehow feels nearly impossible to even think up fun scenarios for the Paldea starters despite all of them being somewhat similar in the Carnival theme

Cinderace x Inteleon ended becoming a popular duo/ship despite having next to nothing in common yet somehow I have a very hard time imagining Meowscarada x Quaquaval will become anywhere near as popular despite them both looking like circus clowns
