It seems like people are having vastly different experiences with this game. Its an almost unplayable glitchy mess for some, while for others it has some issues but is at the very least presentable. So lets figure out the common denominators in this

For me
>Physical copy of Scarlet
>downloaded the patch before starting the game
>Gen 1 switch w/ no hacks or mods done to it
>Mostly playing offline
>Have played docked and handheld with no real difference in quality

For me, its been pretty par for the pokemon course. Definitely no worse than SwSh or PLA. There's some pop in and frame rate issues, but its very playable. Its only really even noticeable in the cities.
