>>52222343Abilities are garbage and the game would have been better without them. Now every other Pokemon needs it special secret signature Ability that nothing else can have that just bloats the game, even if it functions identically to another Ability. Even as far back as Gen 3 needless Ability bloat can be traced back to Pure Power vs Huge Power. They do the same thing, but one is the funny rabbit Ability and the other is Medicham's Ability. We get retarded shit now like Tough Claws just being better than Iron Fist in every way, or how Libero is just Protean again but for Cinderace. That's not even going into how some Pokemon are just screwed over by what Abilities they get.
Natures were garbage and Game Freak knows it, which is why they added Mints eventually to fix that bad decision. Imagine, on top of a worse IV system, your Pokemon just had another 1 in 25 chance of being optimal at what it's supposed to do, 6 in 25 at being just okay, and a 1 in 25 chance of being garbage at what it's supposed to do. Then various grades of "okay" and "bad" in between. It's tedious, it's bullshit, and never should have happened because the kids that the games are targeted at won't notice or care, and people who fully understand the system often get into OCD scenarios because of it. I'd even argue Natures are an additional reason for the Physical/Special split because hey, at least in theory if you get an Adamant Squirtle you can do something with that post-split now instead of being kind of fucked.
The actual good things Gen 3 did was adding actual names for Berries which made the world feel more organic to the world, and that Secret Bases were a cool if underutilized concept. Shame Gen 4 made those even worse by only allowing you to make them in a square cave.
They had no real reason to make these changes other than to appeal to massive autists and it's been fucking up Pokemon ever since.
