For the 3DS? It absolutely is. Graphics were the least of Gen 6 and 7's issues. If anything, both have some of the prettiest visual moments in the entire series.

Explain why you like it, because it would only be forgivable if there wasn't so many fucking clipping problems, moving cliffs (a problem PLA also had), the framerate drops, A-posing characters within visible drawn distance, poor draw distance, the fact that characters vanish when zooming instead of turning semi-opaque, etc.

Idk I didn't mind all the small glitches and bugs, made me laugh. My biggest problem is the fps drops and long-ass unskipable cutscenes. The graphics are charming imo and as long as the game has a lot of exploration and things to find I'm happy

Reminder this is not a hardware issue. This is a "we don't know how to do 3D well and refuse to hire people who" issue. The Switch is a large phone and plenty of games look beautiful on it because people who design around its limitations work on them. GF just doesn't give a fuck about delivering quality.

Like any graphic format from any time period, I like them when done on purpose to help achieve a specific artstyle, but not when they're a sign of laziness. Similar to games that use sprite art because the artist is passionate about it, not because it's cheaper.

The CPU is not good at drawing things, that’s the GPU’s job. And 90% of the time when a game is CPU-bound, it’s because the CPU is being used to handle a whole lot of garbage that it shouldn’t be.

Red Dead lets you ride horses to traverse the open world, but it isn't nearly as fun as riding Koraidon/Miraidon.
Once you unlock all 5 abilities like (swimming, gliding, climbing vertical walls, dashing, and a better jump), then traversing the open world becomes so fucking enjoyable.

Glitching aside, I hate this design so much. It's like they were given Gura's character sheet and tried their best to make not-gura while completely missing the point of what makes her work. Like why the fuck does her smile have that shape with shark teeth? It doesn't look good like that. You don't use that shape for shark teeth, it just makes the lines look really fucking stupid because the teeth aren't curving with the lip shape.

You can see them through the window and if you throw a pokéball it glitches itself through the wall and you have the battle inside. There's other places like this where your pokémon appears on the other side of a cavern wall or something.

I was quite surprised when I started Black Flag on the Switch. Ubisoft is usually shit, so fuck knows how they managed to do it.
Skyrim is obviously quite good too, and even runs with some texture mods to make it look better.
They could also do what it looks like Hogwarts Legacy is doing. From the gameplay stream it looks like it loads that gigantic map in sections. You have to wait for just a few seconds before entering each big part of the castle. I believe Order of the Phoenix did that on the PS2.

I like them too, but there's a difference between PS2 tier graphics and graphics that look like PS2 tier thanks to the fault of the developers. Plus that's not even getting into the fact that the game runs terribly and sometimes the graphics glitch out on you altogether. This is a modern game, from a billion dollar franchise (and a major IP at that), on a console with other open world games with smaller budgets working better than it does. This should not be an acceptable standard for graphics.

UMVC3 has bad graphics if you're going by model fidelity. This much was put on full display when they ripped Dante's model directly to use in MVCI. He looks like fucking shit but that didn't matter in Ultimate because the game has an amazing shader and is stylized as fuck.

You can overcome a low polygon count. It is very possible to polish a turd enough to make it look amazing. Pokemon games lack the style needed to overcome how behind the curve they are in terms of model fidelity.

Adding to your post fellow Anon.

I'd happily take an Open World approach to the series if it was done right. I'd even have them make areas more enclosed just so it could focus on loading a smaller amount of assets so you can get something that looks great and stylised.

Always knew the transition to 3d made the game rougher than It should have been but I felt It's soul since the beginning, only sadness I hold is ORAS' post game not keeping up outside of the delta episode and Zygarde 100% being in the next gen instead, I'll also mention the other Switch games had better water than OP's attachment and gen 7 was not poor either on those terms. One thing for sure is I'm having fun talking about these anyways, I'll add gen 6 had a good amount of movies and other side contents like animes and specials :)

A lot of Kirby FW scenery is fixed/traveling camera, showing the route in its best angle. I too would prefer this level of polish from pokemon especially since they used these techniques on routes in SM or SwSh, instead of "big plains of nothing".
But let's be real, if GF go back to it and remove 360° camera, everyone will whine about muh open world, muh freedom, failling to comprehend that you could consider Red/Blue open world if they just added back then "you can go in any town /any gym from the start".

The games have never had GREAT visuals (DS/3DS era was the best it ever looked) but GF needs to focus on tailored environments because they obviously can't pull off a functioning open world environment, let alone fill it with immersive details instead of stuff that makes you stop and think "why did I pay sixty bucks for this"

Pokemon entities are mostly static, they have no physics attached to them, barely any behaviours and scripting. If the games weren't so shittily coded you could have hundreds of pokemon running around without tanking the framerate in the least

HAL is filled with people who enjoy what they do and love the franchises they work on. GameFreak is filled with people who have stated multiple times that they don't want to be known only as "the developer that makes Pokemon games" and who are so tired of Pokemon that massive portions of the company are pulled away from development for the mainline series for the largest grossing franchise in the entire world to work on games that hardly anyone knows exist and even fewer actually enjoy.

This is why pretty much everyone who gets their hands on the Pokemon I.P ends up making a higher quality game than GF. They genuinely don't want to be doing it anymore. They're putting in the bare minimum effort because they know it keeps the company going so they can continue working on other shit that they actually want to work on even if those other games aren't popular.
