Context matters.
When we first saw it, it was presented as the evolution of Finizen. It was not what people wanted from a dolphin Pokemon, fuck it might still not be that.
But as it turns out, it's not just an evolution, it's a gimmick. It makes it immediately way better

While it's nothing special on late game, you can find it in the equivalent of Route 1.

That's a 115 Atk, 90 Spd pokémon you can catch where in previous games you'd have Zigzagoons

It absolutely destroyes early game

I know this is probably bait, but you got it reversed. A lot of older folks grew up with super hero either through comics or cartoon. And the shitposting is actualy very in tune with early imageboard theme. That kind of ironic shitposting that generates oc is very reminescent of the golden age of imageboard before eternal summer.
