Ice weasel still making the meta it's bitch but Terastal helps people circunvent it, but at that point it's just a broken checks broken. Other than those two things it everything is strong but not banworthy. RMoon is cucked by bulky Fairys/Fighting/Steels types so it has huge 4MSS, Gardelade is strong and can go mixed but it's too frail so most teams can handle it, Bundle is taking the hole left by Mane but Ice/Water even with F-Dry is not as spamable as Mane combo, still enough to make some idiots triggered, Palafin still makes people seethe, Aperape is gaining traction, Saltgolem still a beast, both P-Donphans are great mons, stall somehow is still alive despite all the nerfs.

I don't really like terablast as a move because you commit too much into teraing one specific mon whereas in practice you oftentimes have too good an opportunity to pass up to tera someone else, and here given that sb/ep/torch have good coverage I don't see the point. I would only use it for strong mons being held back by their shit movepool

I see the point, but I'm making it a matter of opportunity cost. you're choosing to run 3 moves AND promising not to tera anyone else, for stronger coverage (I'm not mentioning the ability to change type defensively because that's valuable to every mon depending on the situation). I just don't think you get enough out of this on average.

Water and Snow are pretty good. Managed to reach 1400 elo.

It’s a bulky boosting tank with Unaware that can snowball against opponents with a better version of Fiery Dance. Helps that it gets Slack Off and STAB Shadow Ball along with Earth Power to give it perfect coverage of the entire meta and more longevity. Works well on its own and works even better behind screens. Only thing that kinda sucks is the Speed and weakness to opposing Grounds and Ghosts. Solid mon overall, nothing meta breaking but still pretty good.

Not bad I guess. I've always been a rain guy and experimented with Hail teams in the past. That sounds like fun. I haven't really touched anything Pokemon since USUM. Late to the party here but Hisuian Braviary got Tinted Lens? I feel like that’s a full tier or two worth of redemption for this thing in combination with Esper Wing boosting Speed. I was afraid it was going to completely unusable after seeing its initial stat spread, but I’m feeling a bit of hopium with the updated ability and signature move.

Gen 8 was aggressively boring.
I don't even necessarily disagree with any of the offensive threats banned in gen 8, but they actively refused to even consider banning any defensive threat.

I hope stall getting gutted as hard as it did this gen will make Smogon realize that they can't preserve their stall meta this time, but I doubt they'll take the hint.

While I don't think it should have been banned just 3 days into the meta, it's also probably a good idea to mitigate giving shitters a delete button that's potentially only potent after getting outplayed. Effective cheese is always bad for meta.

Flying only works if you sacrifice an offensive move for Terra which becomes useless if you use up your Terra on another mon.

Ground gives it the Electric immunity and STAB Earthquake so now it can run on Sand teams.
Combined with its Water and Ice coverage along with Dragon Dance... Gyarados will be the top used OU mon this gen.

With Rapid Spin and Water types being ever present and barely any support from Sticky web (Masqueran is the only one that learns it this gen) they will be sadly stuck in UU.
Even Intimidate looses this gen as an ability due to Defiant being a more common ability in the meta.
Right now it works best with a dedicated screen support.
If we get dex updates and more sticky web users then that might change.

Esper wing being a high Crit and speed boosting move is magnificent.
I feel like all of the Hisuian formes will do great this gen once they are released.

I only used 2 to get the job done.

He's the only one with a clear view on how broken that thing is.

The worst part is that they admit the mon wouldn't be anything special without Last Respects, and then turn around and say that the move is the problem.
I feel like Smogon genuinely just lacks common sense sometimes.

To be fair, battling a team of 6 identical mons can be tricky.
Palafin has no hard counters. Soft counters, sure, but nothing that always wins no matter what (as far as we know)
And chances are, you're not going to bring a full team of Palafin counters to a battle.
Your counters are going to get worn down and much of your team is likely to be dead weight against it.

This is a bit of a misconception.

Ladder players, who make up the vast majority of Smogon's player base, hate stall. They constantly complain about obviously busted shit that ruins the game like Clef and Pex.
When you're playing on the ladder, you don't need to win every match. You just need to win more than you lose. So a faster playstyle where you can play more matches is preferred.

Tournament players, who are a relative minority, love stall. And the council only gives a shit about tournament players. They let tournament players vote to decide what gets suspected.
When you're playing in a tournament, one loss can cost you the entire tournament. Losing has a much bigger cost. So a safe playstyle that rewards consistently good plays rather than deciding everything in a couple of turns is preferred.

Pincurchin has no presence on the field, it only sets Spikes and dies, does not even have Volt Switch to pivot into the Paradoxes it's supposed to support and lost Rising Voltage.
This is the reason why you aren't seeing much Electric Terrain compared to Sun, Torkoal isn't very good either but it does at least have a respectable presence with its high defense and strong Lava Plume and Body Press.

Tapu Koko is of course a completely different story since it can actually pivot but most importantly has a comparable power level to the paradoxes it's supposed to support and on paper at least good synergy with them. That's why I predict it will go completely nuts especially if Tera and/or all the Iron Paradoxes survive until it's reintroduced.

SV is the greatest offense-oriented powercreep in the series so far, trying to preserve the old bulky offense meta that has always dominated singles seems more a matter of principle than anything else at this point.

Because it gives you more variety to chose from. If you keep the meta as is you will have a much smaller sample to pick from. People hate gen 8 but the amount of competitive teams you could build there was insane.

Doesn't Terastal do this too? It makes a lot of shitmons viable and the "rich get richer" scenario doesn't really happen when the meta constantly rotates if they get too comfortable about a cookiecutter Tera type.

Offensive powerhouses like Pao and Bundle are viable even without Tera, it just makes them more unpredictable.

It's a hybrid wall and setup sweeper thanks to Unaware+Slack Off+WoW+Hex+Torch Song.
It's a pretty unique mon but held back by its shitty defensive type. Terastal turns it into a legitimate OU-material threat.

How do you actually deal with this type of team without having to rely specifically on a certain set of mons? The only priority moves that can reliably one shot Flutter is a bullet punch from Scizor or a Sucker Punch from Kingambit. Its typing means it's immune to a decent chunk of priority attacks and can easily balk a hit from the ones it isn't immune to. Sucker Punch would do a much better job at keeping it in check if it weren't for its fucking Fairy typing.

Lmao why is VGC restriction relevant? Even with restriction VGC teams are 80% identical. Banning something that cannot be dealt with isn't wrong, 15+ pokemon is a drop in the ocean when you consider how many pokemon there are.

It's not VGC only, they're also restricted for BSS

And the reason is that the Pokemon was 670 plus best I clearly made to be better than the average Pokemon, and are not considered part of the standard pokémon pool

Of course there are some exceptions, such as most mythical Pokemon and stuff like zygarde or kyurem-b

But for the rest of the Pokemon, that is supposed to be the power level of basic mods for the generation. I will always prefer metas like UU but I think it's disingenuous to call the tier OU when you ban any of the actually good Pokemon (that weren't designed to be overpowered from the beginning)

Fire or electric if you run Tera Blast.
The real killer set however is Modest Energy Booster with Agility.
This way it gets a +1 SpA boost since its base SpA is higher than speed and after Agility it outspeeds everything. It's also bulky enough to take physical priority so Vacuum Wave Lucario is the only answer. This is where Ghost Tera comes into play for the immunity, something Chien-Pao also exploits. Bundle already has perfect coverage in 2 moves so it can run whatever the hell it wants.
