Emerald perfectly encapsulates the revival of Pokemon games. And it represents all the early 2000s goodness and fun times that were had. I highly recommend it.

But if you are looking for a challenge you got the wrong game, Emerald is possibly the easiest in the franchise.

not saying it's the hardest, but this opinion confuses me considering modern games. emerald has a few nasty battles if you're unprepared, like may 2, watson and tate&liza

I prefer Emerald overall, but ORAS has:
- Team Aqua and Team Magma being actual characters.
- Wally being an actual character.
- Episode Delta, which is peak Pokemon Fiction.
- Gen 6 Quality of Life Breeding Mechanics.
But the whole "handing you Latios/Latias" is really jarring.
Emerald has:
- hunting down Latios/Latias.
- Mystery Gift Islands have a nice novelty.
- Battle Frontier(Fuck the Palace and the Pyramid though).
- both Groudon and Kyogre, as well as Team Magma and Team Aqua, being in the spotlight.

I wouldn't it too highly since it's a very lazy way to put roaming legendaries in the game, you just hear from it from TV, choose a color and search for it. It's a very random happening compared to directly see the roaming legends in Gen 2. If there's something else you can put for Emerald, you have way less screen transitions in the overworld, not that ORAS screen transitions are terribly slow or something, it's just that moving on Emerald feels slightly more fluid.

A lot of the major battles put up a decent challenge and it's also got battle frontier, don't see how you could call it easier than anything gen 6 or after

Played ORAS recently. Traversing the ocean feels a lot better when you don't have to go into the menu to refresh Repel every time it runs out. Megas and the new post game are great additions. I never bothered with Battle Frontier in Emerald so it wasn't a big trade off.
Plus I played as May and her animations are adorable. You even get an idol costume for pokemon contests.
