Looks more like a Pokemon than 95% of gen 9 so I like it better by comparison. I don't really think it looks that bad, just mediocre as a psuedo

and I plan on making this a point in my videos on Gen 9 and Pokemon in general but pokemon designs can be thought of as either "Cute" "Cool" or "Silly", with some mixing the three up. Generally, early on the sillier designs or design elements were sparse and didn't detract from the overall design, so that even something as simple as diglet wasn't TOO silly. Mr Mime, Jynx, on the other hand... Starting in largely gen 7 or 8, the "it's terrible...so I love it" style of millennial irony starting making its way into the designs. There's no way game freak wasn't trolling us making a set of fucking keys a pokemon. Gen 7 got a little worse in this regard, until gen 8 outright started abandoning overtly cool and/or cute pokemon for silly pokemon or silly elements. Coalossal is alright, but why does it have that ridiculous pile of coals on its back? it's comically large. Weezing has a lolsorandumb gas-snot mustache and stovepipe tophat. It's all too much. Gen 9 now has "silly" as the core DNA in most of its designs. The mob boss dog has a silly cartoonish face. It isn't a first for the series but it feels out of place on that pokemon.
so like I said early on, the spinosaurus looks much better for being a plain, cool design.
