I'm assuming SwSh was the first games that sparked an actual sizeable negative controversy and they never managed to know how to handle it.
As far as I remember, they don't do release date parties anymore since SwSh.

They're probably changing marketing strategies. Considering how low zoomers' attention spans are, they're hyping people pre-release just a couple months before releases instead of year-long marketing campaigns.

I definitely feel this too. SwSh's buzz was controversial, meaning that about half of the discussion was defending GameFreak. Right now everyone and the media are straight up shitting at SV's bugs and horrible presentation.

Did they do a lets play of sv like they did with swsh?
I remember them doing a live play of swsh and showing the wild area where most of backlash came from with their reasoning for removing nat dex etc.
But sv felt like it was mostly trailers that they could just ignore.

Gamefreak knows if they so much as show thier face in an interview with almost anyone they're going to get asked just wtf is even going on anymore and then they have to either give a complete non-answer to deflect the question or admit thier incompetence and/or admit they're stubborn and refuse to evolve and/or admit that they just wanna shit out low quality trash you'd find on a mobile phone.

It's easy for Gamefreak to ignore all the outrage when there's basically radio silence.

This is a problem not just with Gamefreak but Gaming as a whole. By keeping radio silence and hiding behind carefully curated trailers they basically have control of the narritive up until release. I imagine there was no E3 this year not because of Covid concerns but because Game Devs and Publishers don't want to relinquish the power of controlling the narritive.

The live play with the dexcut announcement was during E3 2019. There was no E3 this year. I don't recall if they had showings for either game at TGS.
I recall there being only one playtest demo for SV roughly a month before release, but everything else was just trailers and press releases for said trailers. There were even big gaps between news with the first 3 trailers (3 months and 2 months respectively).

I wonder why Ken Sugimori didn't do any characters this generation? Not even the protagonists. The new characters look off. Sure, the ones done by the Land of the Lustrous artist look pretty fine, but the rest look really strange. Sugimori's characters were a big part of the series' identity in my opinion, and it's weird not seeing his style here.

Because pokémon has a large dedicated fanbase that will continue to buy their games no matter how shit they are (Scarlet/Violet are already breaking records in Japan), but they also have a very vocal discontent part of the fanbase that would absolutely pounce on them if they were doing another "haha I don't know" interview. Since the sheep portion of the fanbase still nets them 15-20 million on anything they have no reason to actually face the music

FromSoft is definitely the surprising one of the bunch. Platinum and IS I can understand because Platinum has been in the shitter for a hot minute especially following Babylon's Fall and IS seems to always be so crunched underneath FE that they needed to have Koei Tecmo step in to help them out.
But FromSoft seems really odd considering how high quality their titles are. My guess would be that overtime is a fucking bitch there.

It actually totally can, the problem is that the game begin as soon as you boot it up with a long unskippable cutscene (Alt-Enter doesn't work)
No, what's embarrassing about the Steam version is that they left in an entire folde4 called "BackupThisFolderButDontShipItWithYourGame" which most likely contains the entire source code
But since the game has seen no discounts since launch, I'm betting Game Freak abandoned the game and probably don't know/don't care

Ever since Gen 7 they started relying more and more on freelance artists with their own quirks that look good in a vacuum but pretty horrid alongsode other humans in the Pokemon universe. They had the Bayonetta and Mario RPG designers working on SV, and that's supposed to be a good thing when what they made doesn't "feels" lile Pokemon?

I remember watching a video where they implied projects can grow the more they have people working on them, which led to this game, the badass elephant one, and some other sidescroller. They all flop of course, and Pokemon keeps the lights on.

Even Ohmori was just like oh het the game is out when it launched but for SWSH he was gushing about how he would have dreams about the characters and repeating how they want to make the best game yet with the power of the switch. The design takes a lot from Breath of the Wild and of Arceus legends, but the whole explorations and new frontiers and age of discovery theme they did with the first reveal trailer doesn't really seem present in the game.I'd love to listen in on team meetings with the designers, I bet there are people who just hate each other's guts and do things to spite them.

Look at something like Drill Drozer (directed by Ken Sugimori) where it never feels like the game had untapped potential and its concept is thoroughly explored in both the campaign and the more advanced techniques are side-missions
Or Bushi Seiryuuden for SFC (which last year got an English translation patch, check it out), that game was meant to release in 1996, only a month after Red and Green, and published by Enix but got pushed to 1997 and published by T&E (the makers of such classics as Hydlide and Golf on VirtualBoy) and yet seems more impressive than the Nintendo-published-6-year-long-development Pokemon

I believe they simply haven't logged onto Steamwork in ages because releasing games outside of Nintendo isn't a priority to them. Even Tembo the Badass Elephant and Giga Wrecker (which btw, despite of having promised post-launch content after the end of the early-access phase, they only released it as the "Alt." version for consoles, early-adopters on Steam got screwed) have been handled by another publisher. NISA published the game for PS4 and really would have handled this release better too (like a digital artbook and OST, as NISA always does)

They were able to plaster themselves as the developers of Pokemon and advertise Toby Fox as the composer on the Steam page and it still failed. It's somewhat sad how without Pokemon, Gamefreak is actually nothing and would go under instantly.

I mean yeah, the entity deserves to do so given what they put out fall short on most aspects of game design and development but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect real people who will be negatively affected and don't deserve that because only a small amount of people are in charge who run the show, design and production schedules are the most responsible for the fuckups. It's like saying Enron going bankrupt was a good thing when no one at the lower levels of the company was responsible for all the fraud except the C-suite executives who cooked all the numbers and the accountants who didn't do due diligence to check that they were doing this and those at the bottom shouldn't have been out of a job because of that.

That's how ALL games announced on Pokémon day get treated, you newfag tourist cunt. The stunning bit should have been the fact they announced a rehash in fucking February, when it's usually April or May they reveal and start talking about them. Nintendo ha an internal calendar for when new details for new upcoming games gets revealed and they start heavily talking about the games with 6 months to release. Pokémon's just never been affected the way Zelda or AC or shit have been, as they're CONSTANTLY releasing games yearly, thus constantly have more news on "the latest game to show off" after reveal until announcing Legends (which even then was still only 3 months after BDSP and was promoted alongside BDSP while in the run-up, actually breaking Nintendo's preferred promotional methods).

SM had nothing between its announcement in late February and the starter reveal in mid May, other than a few cover art cockteases from Corocoro.
Before its first major post-reveal news in early June, SwSh had the ill-fated shirt design competion in May.
