The disappointment of VS isn’t inherently in its concept of design, rather the game is to broad in scope for gamefreak to process in its meager development of their outdated 3 year cycle. The more complex these games become the worse they will perform. Most open world games require 5-6 time of development.

The problem is not actually the open world but GF being bad at designing Open Worlds. That said, I think Pokemon doesn't actually NEED open world to be good, but a well designed open world Pokemon game would be neat

I also dropped Pokémon after SM, completely skipped SwSh, LGPE and PLA. I have a computer that is not a toaster now so I'm running Scarlet on the emulator. Boy am I glad I'm not paying for it because the ground textures are awful and I'm still in early game and so far from 2h play, 3/4 were cutscenes, or running 2 meters to play another cutscene.

Really like the pokémon on overworld thing tho, incentivizes me to catch everything I can
