Comparing it to other generations that had later revisions and extra years to fix their problems is an unfair way to treat a game.

After some thinking I can see why major trainers somewhere from mid-game onward have so lacking teams - During testing GF realized that with exp.share on, player is getting pretty heft amount of experience even if they don't grind at all so they slashed out 1 or two Pokemon from every team to reduce amount of experience.
At least that's what I think.

This was the only gen that introduced a decent battle gimmick. Fuck Z-moves and Dmax just ruins the game. Tera is going to be a stupid meme.

Honestly I loved Y, it motivated me to get a living Dex which required transferring my beloveds from Gen IV/V (and even replaying a few Gen III games), 100% worth it. The only thing that would've made it better would've been a huge post-game map or something. But in terms of mechanics, etc. I absolutely loved it.

They run way too clunky for a turn based game. Gen 1 and 2 were slow and had glitches but if you you played the games normally shit ran smoothly enough.

Usm is the best game in terms of challenge if you turn off exp share.
Gen8? You stuck with games with forced amie and broken exp share in LGPE and BDSP that ruin any semblance of fun.
SwSh might not have amie hax but the exp share is the most broken of any game bar XY which you could turn off.
Then when it comes to online battling gen7 is a much more fun meta than 8.
Vgc wise 8 is the best though.

I always found it odd that these games are judged for not having a third version. Makes sense to critique whats already in those games, but for some reason the non existent game is the final nail in the coffin for some people. It's not like Platinum existing suddenly erased all of DP's flaws.

It kinda does because why would you play DP over Pt?
Only vanilla games that are still eorth playing outside of XY of course is BW because its part 1 of a story, SM because it has a total different story to USM and RB because they are the originals.
Outside of that you will always pick:
Crystal, Emerald and Pt for they are the definitive version of their vanillas.

These games are the definition of forgettable 6/10. If you asked 100 pokemon players to list all mainline pokemon games, this one will always be mentioned last because nobody remembers it. Can you even remember any Elite 4 from this game?

SwShit was garbage I'm sorry. After defeating the main campaign, there's nothing else to do. The DLCs didn't help and calyrex and co were trashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Playing third versions is acknowledging the originals weren't that good. The issue is that XY are partially judged for a game that doesn't exist. Just seems so nonsensical in comparison.
Though a weird note, I do actually know someone who said that he preferred Pearl over Platinum. Though I think he only said that because most of our friend group was shitting on BDSP, and the guy loves jumping to game freaks defense.

I would agree with you if Game Freak hadn't already established a pattern of releasing lower quality first versions before adding onto them later. it's not as much as criticizing the game itself, but labeling the entire generation as a step-down in quality when it simply didn't have the time that other games did.

If I am being fair, they aren't bad games, It's just that they are so easy that I can't see myself not getting bored playing, also am not a fan of the dex too. I could rant about how 3D ruined the franchise but you and I had heard that song and dance already.
I suppose the gameplay problems could be fixed by hacks but I have never tried a ROM hack pass the DS era
