when did open world become about exactly how little requirements there are
i thought it was about being able to go basically everywhere you can see
i can't think of a single "true" open world game that has no roadblocks for anything at all

virtually every divine beast has its own subplot with 1 or 2 subquests, then theres stuff like getting the gerudo outfit, etc etc

Don't have freedom for the first level of the game, each area of the world still has a linear plot line you engage in (that you don't have to, but you practically need to for the final boss).

The only real answer is complete sandboxes or games with no real objectives like Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress. Pokefags instead want a Witcher or RDR but then shit themselves when they see a roadblock or railroading instance because they don't actually play those kinds of games.

GTA V was literally the first GTA game to have the entire map unlocked from the start. What content is locked behind missions exactly?

Do you just want to never unlock anything, to feel like you just unlocked a whole bunch of new places to see?

You can already go to the entire map from the start "on foot", what difference does it make for you if, on top of that, there's locations you can only visit after you unlock climbing, as a reward for doing that?
