>Pidgeot has no good flying moves on gen 1 but uses the best ones it can learn, Wing Attack and Sky Attack, with 140bp. It also has Mirror Move (which was used even competitively since there were no fucking moves in gen 1) which would copy a good move you used
>Rhydon was a fucking tank and normal type wasn't so bad in gen 1, these moves aren't bad and basically every mon used normal moves
>Exeggutor would put you to sleep and use Barrage (multi hit moves were OP in gen 1) or try to flinch you with Stomp
>Arcanine has high attack and Take Down + Leer
>Gyarados has Hydro Pump and Hyper Beam, both arguably the strongest moves in the game. Dragon Rage does decent damage at the level as well
The only unexcusable one is Ember on Arcanine, it could have Flamethrower instead.

Part of the issue is that most trainers just have the 4 most recent moves in the level up moveset.
And both Arcanine and Exeggutor have basically no moves because they're evolved with Stones.

Nemona beat Pageeta before you too and she's still no champion. Lance was also beaten and was still a champion by gen 2. N on the other hand was never recognized as a champion by the league, so yeah not a champion, just a strong trainer. Gen 5 has only 2 champions, Alder and Iris.
