Couldn't you just take a Pokemon from SwSh, teach it Scald and transfer it over to SV? I mean, it still exists so they wouldn't lose the move unless there's some bullshit that needs to be done to them.

It has a similar function but won't cripple you for the whole the game if you're hit by it. Even if the stat drop is 100% guaranteed, you will see far less of it than you did Scald. It's not as strong and requires that you land two before you're even on par with what Scald could do, AND it's all gone if they switch out. Scald was the biggest faggot move ever introduced to this game.

They changed how that works now, every game you transfer that mon into, their moveset gets reset to what they would learn in that level.

It's a roundabout way of nerfing Scald. They still wanted to give water Pokemon a utility damage move that lowers attack, but not one as busted as Scald. The real question is why bother keeping it at all? I think some shitmons like Lumineon could have kept it to make them a bit relevant.

Chilling water is worse in literally every way. What's worse is I have a hard time seeing it being run very much at all. There's a good handful of other 50-60 power moves that drop stats that don't really get run.

Pretty much, it gives them the excuse to do the bare minimum, but also an excuse for them to take as long as they want to implement Home support like they did with PLA and BDSP.

They get removed too, the only way to get them back as far as the other games is concerned is transferring them back so they regain their moves.
The question is whether transferring from Gen 8 to 9 will be a one way trip or not.

I think these stat lowering moves will start to see some usage now due to the overall increase in power with this gen, recovery getting nerfed, and staple defensive cores missing.
