It's for accessibility reasons. If someone is colorblind, they'll have no way of knowing what type it is. The hats are stupid, but they make it easy to tell what type it is

There should've been a handful of special Tera mons that had design changes besides hats, like how we got Dynamax for everyone and Gigantamax for a few, or the same with Z moves for everyone and a few signature ones for others. Maybe they figured paradox mons would kind of fulfill that "special thing for a select few" role.

I wonder what type the third legend will be. Part rock or poison like Glimmora being related to Tera crystals? Part Psychic? I'd love Poison/Fairy, but Poison/Psychic would be pretty cool, too. It'll probably end up Rock/Psychic and make me sad.

I hope you know this is something companies have been doing for a time already, it wouldn't be unique to Pokémon. It's as simple as adding a shape or sound of some sort on top of colors. It's not that difficult and makes accesibility much easier.
