why would you even need not monotype gyms? They're supposed to be thematically consistent and teach children about types. For diverse battles you have other trainers and facilities/online battles.

What gets me the most is that almost all of the off-types would be really good compliments to an otherwise mono-typed team. It's not like Brassius goes from a bug type to a grass type that both get shredded by fire, rock is good against all of grass's weaknesses and he just throws it away.

I think it makes more sense to ahve the gym leaders' teams be made up of everything except the types they represent, but all of their mons have the ability to Tera into the represented type.

so much missed potential. could have sent out a last bug type and terrastylized it into a completely different type like water to throw off any fire or rock users. Would have been a great twist at the end of every gym and, you know, showed people what the point of the gimmick actually is.

Iono does it great. Electric Typing plus Levitate is OP early game where good counters aren't there. I think her gym was really the only one where they thought it through. Random tera raids have tripped me up more than the rest of the gyms have.

I think the idea was supposed to show you how you can benefit from turning regular mons into a new type, though the only gym that actually showed this off was Iono with a Levitate Mismagius Electric type that had charge beam, confuse ray, and hex. Everyone else seemed to have completely random changes that were surface level "I have a STAB move now"
