The way they set up the Elite 4 is that they expect someone with 8 badges to come in. They have an interview, which would double as a means to get the other 3 Elite and the Champion ready to fight the challenger when it occurs. The story HEAVILY implies that everyone has a day job of some sort and cannot afford to stay in the same building and wait for someone to arrive. Lets look at some examples
>Rika - She is a receptionist and would most likely keep the trainer busy in both the interviewer and first match. It seem that she kind of force into this position by Geeta>Poppy - Probably related to Geeta or Rika and has the most free time. The most oblivious of the bunch.>Larry - He has to run the Gym on top of this. He also doesn't like the position and he made this very obvious with the dialogue. He doesn't like Geeta telling him to use a different set of types.>Hassel - He is the art teacher, so he is kind of busy with that. Before this, he was about to quit both the teaching and Elite 4 status altogether to go back with his autistic dragon clan.>Geeta - She is the CEO of the school, the league, and whatever operation that involves Area Zero and her company. With all of these in mind, I really doubt they would let someone rerun the Elite 4 again if they beaten it. It would probably be annoying for them to fight you again and again after you beat them. This is not assuming all the rematch that some of trainers did because they fail the first, second, or third time around. They all treat this like a secondary (tertiary for Larry) job. That is why they added the School Tournament as a replacement.

Everyone just stays there and you sit there for days on end, until you want to take a leak, and then you have to fight the elite 4 again. Then again, they were just starting out the new league, so there ganna be some fixes they need to do, eventually.
