Red is often a sign of injury or danger. An animal with red around its mouth is likely a threat.
However yellow is different, some yellow things are nutritious, others are poisonous. A vibrant yellow and red animal is not easy to come by, usually a bird, frog, lizard, or fish that would be elusive to the average person.
If a caveman going about his day spotted a pikachu they would be much more alarmed than if they saw a spearow or lopunny.
