I think context helps... this game gives new pokemon the right context, the right sort of lore, and interesting stats or gimmicks to make them stand out. I think that's why. In sword/shield there just weren't good opportunities to use the new mons easily, at least the good ones. I also think stuff like lechonk's evo is decently strong for a filler pokemon with only a couple really bad ones like spidop.
