You know a pokemon design is shit when the real animal it's based on looks cooler, cuter or both. This is the case of Noctowl, for example.
Then there are cases where the real animal is so fucking perfect and has such a pleasant color that you don't want it changed in any way for pokemon. That's the case of flamingos. They are just fucking perfect, the pokemon only needed to have the neck gimmick to make it a fantasy creature. Changing its color or giving it some weird appearance would just make it worse than the real thing, like Noctowl.
