I feel like unova’s is worse simply because they’re so obviously bad yet a small number of zoomers who grew up with BW/BW2 are deluded into thinking they’re good and will start throwing a tantrum of you disagree with them.

Gen 5's terrible starters really made gen 4's look even better. I'd probably consider this my favorite Starter trio because they are all just solid designs. Gen 2 is pretty close but the usability of those 3 is pretty bad. Even in their orginal games. Gen 1 is also really good. It's just to bad Blastoise loses alot of the cool stuff Wartortle had and Charizard is pretty generic and fat. Venusaur is an uber chad though. Gen 6 was also pretty good. Chesnaught is probably the weakest of the 3 design wise. It's mostly its bad colors thiugh. The shiny should have been its main pallet. This is just my opinion thiugh. I think everyone's opinions on starters are valid unless it's just a stretch to Haye things other people enjoy.

I never got the hate for gen 5 starters, them and gen 2 look the best. Samurott works for a quadrupled with weapons, Emboar’s a unique take on a fighter fire starterI’m counting Incineroar in that group because that’s what it’s designed like and Serperior is imposing and regal. I grew up with Kanto and Sinnoh so it’s not really nostalgia.

There's just really no faults you can point out in the gen 4 starters. They're all cool, aesthetically pleasing, cute at the start, good typings, good themes etc. Any criticism of them just sounds like a greasy contrarian trying to explain that their elbows are too pointy. You can go ahead though, curious to see why you don't like them.

Basically, popular = flawless to you. There's plenty of flaws that you can point out but you're just going to dismiss them as nitpicks and contrarianism anyway, because, for you, any criticism towards the thing that you like is a personal insult to your character.
