That animation already existed in SwSh for when a Pokemon that wasn't Dragapult (typically a Smeargle or a Ditto transformed into Dragapult) used Dragon Darts.

Other signature moves were like this too (Calyrex-Ice makes an actual lance for Glacial Lance, Ditto just shoots some energy vaguely shaped like a lance)

Blame the game new camera. Due to it being free range and cinematic angles are gone so many attacks end up being generic.
