>>52327910It doesn't. He's having a midlife crisis and is the richest man on the planet. He's frequently complained about Twitter's moderation decisions and decided to buy it to bring "true free speech absolutism" to Twitter. Except, he's already let his bias show. Although he unbanned Trump and various other far right figures, he refuses to unban Alex Jones because he's sensitive about using the deaths of children in conspiracies. He also banned several lefty accounts at the suggestion of far right figures, in spite of the fact they did nothing illegal - or if they did, the far right guys in question did the exact same shit.
In between all this, hate speech skyrocketed and many major advertisers have pulled off of Twitter. Twitter already wasn't making money. Now it's losing even more and Elon is still 44 billion in the hole. He's discovering that sites that aren't as small as 4chan can't afford to be absolutist on free speech, because no one will pay for them. Not due to some woke globalist conspiracy, but because being associated with a site where your ad can have a porn post and a post littered with slurs and death threats under or next to it isn't exactly a site advertisers - especially family friendly advertisers - want to associate with.
This isn't even covering that the US is essentially the only country with a right to free speech. At this rate it's very likely the UK, EU, Australia, NZ, and maybe even Canada could fine or block Twitter for refusing to comply with certain guidelines or laws.
>>52327678It was never going to die overnight. The thing people suspect will happen is that, because Twitter has a large variety of processes that are proprietary, meaning when Elon fired everyone, he fired the only people who knew how certain aspects of the site worked. So, over months of disrepair, the site will eventually just collapse. Elon hired the guy who jailbroke the PS3 to try to figure out all the code but I don't think it'll amount to much.
