Not really. The only time that the legendaries had the same origin as the next region was Unova(the swords of justice being the three musketeers, and thus, based on a french source)

China is too controversial and will therefore never be used as the base for a region. If the portrayal is one bit negative somewhere it will greatly upset the chinks and risk the game being censored, if it's too positive it will upset the rest of the world including their domestic market.

South America has the greatest potential for a region, considering its real world equivalent being an assload of exotic species, its mon version would be a perfect location for new mons plus regional versions of others that could be implied to have originally been from here and thus the other region versions are technically the variants. Plus you could call it the og region hint from gen 1. (Also would be neat if it was set in the 1980s) Africa region would also work well.

If they want to keep doing open world Australia would be such an easy region to design for.
One of the only times where the weird cutoffs for routes and areas would make sense given here in Australia we have literal deserts bordering on rainforests. Oh and also we have snowy mountains, Great Barrier Reef. Its such a diverse place to make a region of I know Gamefreak would make the entire thing the fucking outback and call it a day
