To be honest I hope Sugimori stops associating himself with Pokemon and Gamefreak and moves onto literally anything else. He's too talented to be tied down to just this rotten franchise so much.

GF has been doing terribly since the transition to 3D. Only reason they remain relevant is thanks to Pokemon's reputation as a consumerist giant. The real money is in the merchandising. Only thing of note from their games to happen in years was Mega Evolution and they quickly dropped that after Gen VI came and went.

I still can't understand why megas were dropped. They had absolute gold there and they know it! Every gimmick since has just been a less cool imitation of megas.

I have no idea. Most common claim I see is that they dropped it so they would have less 3D models to deal with. Whatever the reason, dropping mega evolution and XY's superior trading system and chat was the dumbest thing they ever did.
