These things. How w as this even okay'd? The only reason they exist is to teach unovaborts about type matchups at the first gen. They were so dumb, a trainer school like in the previous games wouldn't suffice...

How many of these are just straight-up redesigns of gen 1 pokemon? Machop, zubat, rattata, abra, geodude, pidgey, etc. All just redesigned but worse. Seriously, does any one like Cunckledork?

I don't think they used the real life inspirations as a huge selling point until Kalos and beyond. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs just wanted to have a desert somewhere. Or if they used the melting pot idea where new york is home to many people from different environments.
