Megas I think had the most potential - as this guy said,

The unfortunate thing is that they hit a lot of the already popular (and usually pretty strong mons) and then ended making more megas, with only a few of those low to high cases. They cut away megas before they could really get the most out of them, but the hype of seeing something weak being given a new life was by far my favourite thing to come from any of the gimmicks.
Some of that they've moved into the like 5 different kinds of regional forms, but they've fucked that up as well by having them be one and done, and then leaving them back as shitmon forever afterwards.
