>What's new?Been working on adding move animations for pokemon battles. I had originally planned to just use the animations from the gen3/4/5 games because I knew those sprites were widely available. But attack animations in the gameboy/DS games don't really work like I thought they would. There aren't just a bunch of frames of animation I can use wholesale because attacks aren't really animated frame by frame at all. For example something like Thunderbolt has a single lightning bolt sprite with like 3-4 frames of animation, and the Gameboy/DS applies some stretching and deformation to it to make it look like it's this big thing falling out of the sky with a bunch of extra static shit flying off of it. It's all a bunch of different pieces that the game puts together on the fly. For me to recreate that would be no easier than just animating a lightning bolt entirely from scratch. So... I basically have to animate an entire lightning bolt from scratch. While RenPy's animation tools are robust, I'm not much of an artist or much of an animator. I'm really not going to "wow" anyone with what I've made, but I'll settle for "good enough." The focus on this game is the plot and the characters, and the battles are kind of secondary to the plot anyay.
