it doesn't count the as an encounter unless you actually enter battle with it so it won't count shinies that you don't see and walk past

shinies lost meaning in gen 6 and continue to be trivialized more and more every gen. they used to be a status symbol, now everyone has a box full of em.

I don't care about status symbols. I just like having the option for a different looking version of a pokemon I like. I've been playing probably 25-30 hours and have only come across three. They're still rare enough to feel special to me.
