XY was rushed to release because the 3ds was already out for 2 years and pokemon had no title in it, as one of the premier nintendo console pusher titles. Despite that, it had a lot of promise and it was ambitious jumping from 2.5d to 3d. The problem was that they never stopped and expanded on what they tried to do then and continued a cycle of rushed games with a lot of half baked ideas, unimpressive graphics that aren’t excused in the game’s 3d presentation now and bad pandering habits.

It wasn't so much that it was rushed, rather that people were understandably more forgiving about the game having less postgame and pokemon because of the jump to 3D
For some reason the takeaway the execs got from that was that they could just be lazy with their games from that point forward and rush them out because pokemon fans will eat anything up. XY was genuinely a good game and it being the first step of the series decline is entirely accidental and pretty unfortunate

The best thing XY gave us was PSS which was taken away a gen later (and will never probably happen ever again due to clamshell of 3ds scrapped for shitch).

It needed a Pokemon Z but the anni (and therefore SM) killed it

They saw gen 5 as their magnum opus that they put a lot of care and creativity into, but after that bombed they just stopped caring and taking risks, causing the games to stagnate. They realized that most fans wanted them to pander to nostalgia and introduced a shiny new gimmick every gen instead of try experimental things like BW's dex. The Dream World was based and XY berry farming was a nightmare.

BW had no old mons available before the post game, an enemy team with a complex story, a large as shit post game, a bunch of exploring and backtracking with hms, moving sprites, and more sprite work than they ever did before just to name a few. And where in gen 1 or any of the games that follow, do they question the morality of keeping Pokémon as pets and having them fight each other? Granted I thought that angle really did not work for such a cartoon-y world, but N and Ghetsis were not nearly as absurd as the villains that would follow them. They tried (and failed imo) to have a compelling narrative in gen 5.

Gen 5 is clearly the black sheep in the franchise and it’s because of the risks GF took with it.

Nope. I started with RBY back in 1996 as a 5th grader. Gen 5 is just the best take on the formula to date. Had SV been through quality control it would have had a good shot at that title, but it was released as a buggy mess.

XY actually is not that bad.
Specially when you compare with the shit that was Unova. The biggest issue is that it was too easy. But otherwise it was a fun game.
Outside of Gen 9 the worst game is still BW

the xy animations are soulless
theres barely any battle backgrounds in xy which is stupid
yes xy did the bottom screen better
i hate trainer customization, especially in sv since it just encourages trannyism, id rather just have 2 well designed characters
ignoring the pwt and treehollow/tower
i have no idea why they locked berry farming to the dream world, still who actually farms berries the game gives you enough of each one
ignoring pokestar, the xy minigames are literally shovelware, plus theres the balloon popping minigames on the xtransciever that are xy tier shovelware, but exist
ribbons are only collected by autismos
