Nuzlockes are fun not necessarily for the challenge but moreso for the opportunity to use a wider variety of pokemon. Sticking to the rules like a purist is stupid though. If you catch a Marrill and it has thick fat instead of huge power who cares? Just grab another and release the other.

This isn't a nuzlocke and this isn't designed for pokemon fans. This is designed to be an rng nearly impossible game mode that appeals to "strategy gamers". This is why the best way to play is to use the nuzlocke fainting tiles, but to randomly pick pokemon by route with a number generator to avoid encounter rate bias. Personally I also like runs where I only catch pokemon I haven't used before (with exception of starter)

Fun is subjective. I've done nuzlockes with dupes clause, set mode, no items in battle, and level caps since BW2. Standard rules are too easy for me and I enjoy a good challenge in my vidya. If you like playing the top way, more power to you. Same goes for Ironmonfags. Making your own rules helps add replayability to the games.

Most of the "complexity" was only introduced into the game because Nintendo realized they could make money off of hosting big tournaments. Gen IV was literally the first time any of that shit was in there for older players. EV, IVs, and Egg Moves were literally just mechanics to make everyone's Pokemon unique and nothing more in the first three generations.

2k's launcher fucked my modlist to hell so I can't really give a comprehensive list of everything I ran at once. I basically just stacked like, every mod that increased difficulty on top of each other that I could without the game crashing. End result was large enemies getting into the triple digits for hp toward the endgame, aggroing one pod aggroing all the others, shit like taht. Also stuff like almost totally randomized classes, higher squad size, and no time limits (beyond the enemy reinforcements eventually becoming too much to handle obviously). Very fun, highly recommend.
