Breddy gud, the story and gameplay were both significantly different from most games in the series but the main battle mechanics are still similar enough to be intuitive to anyone who has played the main games in the series. It was an interesting change of pace kind of similar to how Colosseum was, I guess? I liked how you had the freedom to just go sneaking around chucking pokeballs all over the place without needing to battle wild pokemon, especially since you needed to catch a ton of duplicates for the research tasks. Oh, and the crafting system was pretty good, too.
My main gripe with the game is the general lack of multiplayer content

My first Pokemon games was Blue, before I could even fucking read. The fuck are you talking about? The ONLY Pokemon game I truly didn't care for was SwSh but even then I didn't hate them like so many retards here do, SV is a buggy, ugly looking mess, but I still think they're fine games for what they are.

My favorite thing about PLA is the roleplay headcanon you can do when you interact with Pokemon. There was a Cleffa amongst a field Clefairy and an Alpha Clefable. Something about beating the shit out of the cleffa and seeing the Clefairy panic and the Clefable angry got me going, ya know? Like I imagine the Clefairy running away, crying the babby was kill, and the Clefable protecting the herd until I beat it and caught it causing the Clefairy to panic fight me in which i beat them up.

Eh, if it is, then it’s not an explicitly stated mechanic. I do notice some Pokémon specifically charge you, like Tauros. Pokémon size difference are also back, but it’s never acknowledged. It’s funny; flying Pokémon are basically forced to approach you once they notice you because it’s practically impossible to hit them yourself with how gimped the Poke ball throw is. It also makes entering battle with a specific Pokémon in a herd hell.

Yeah, SV feels like it was made as an open world successor to SWSH with basically no influence from PLA. The problem is that PLA did a lot of good things that were kind of important for making open world Pokemon feel good to play, so without all that, and with the compiling technical issues and ugly graphics, SV arguably feels like a downgrade from SWSH.

It's disingenuous to go far that. Maybe sidegrade would be most appropriate. It depends on what you want. Do you want an open world with more freedom to explore but less detail? Play SV, do you want less freedom but more bespoke enviornments with more detail? Play SwSh.etc

Also, I don't care what anyone says, SVs open world is far better than SwShs Wild Areas that felt more like gimmicks disconnected from the main game.

enjoyable to play through, but very little long term appeal to revisit it for. id group it thematically with the spinoffs in that its more story-/campaign-focused, even if GF says its mainline
