those are also the very few vestiges of cool pokemon designs in newer gens, there's less and less of those in each generation
in Gen9 the ones that look cool and detailed, and look like actual creatures are, Koraidon and Miraidon, Baxcalibur (even though it looks like the 1st evo and not the final form, it's still ok) and all of the "past" paradox pokemon.
Ceruledge, Armarouge and the 4 Ruination pokemon are also cool, but they don't really fit thematically. The armor mons really really look like medabots or megaman transformations.
Take for example Salamence, despite being Gen3 it has always looked like shit.
Now take Roaring Moon instead. It's fucking sick.
The CalArts influence is undeniable when you look at shit like Orthworm or Ghimighoul and evo. You can cry and scream all you like, the style is completely different.
It's so prominent that just as that image shows, even Gen1 coolies look like shit when translated in the new artstyle.
