Then everything goes to shit after the split. The other 2 keep 110 SpA but for flareon's specials are reversed for no particularly good reason. They should have realised right there and then that flareon's stats should be:
>65/130/60/110/65/95As a frail but fast enough mixed attacker, since actual physical fire moves still had a long way to come, so in the meantime it could at least use flamethrower and shadow ball. Not only would those stats make more sense for it, they also don't overlap with any other eeveelution going forward: there's no such thing as a mixed attacker eeveelution, flareon is the only one but it's stat distribution is so weird and its type synergy so bad that it is forever fucked beyond belief.
Give flareon the stats it deserves first, THEN think about a good ability for it. Guts fits thematically with hydration and quick feet, so it should stay (a 95 speed guts user with STAB flare blitz is good enough, too bad about no flame orb), there's always an empty ability slot: fur coat and fluffy make a lot of sense on it, but it lacks the HP or moves (cotton guard) to properly use them. If all eeveelutions got pixilate clones like sylveon, flareon with STAB facade, hyper voice and quick attack could be interesting. Hustle, adaptability, sheer force, reckless, etc. would all work too.
