>>52428477Theory time: It's based on the legend of the Tarasque.
>Described as a fearsome legendary dragon-like mythological hybrid from Provence, in southern France.Southern France = Southern Kalos. Could match up with the area on the map that is blanked out. Dragon-like matches the box legendaries and completes the trio.
>Described as having a lion-like head, a body protected by turtle-like carapace(s), six feet with bear-like claws, and a scaly tail like a serpent's tail.Head is different and there's no sign of a tail, but it does have turtle attributes (head and shell), scales (disc), and claws. (I also wonder if the book sketch shows a disc in the foreground and background protecting it, just like the tarasque shell.)
>The creature inhabited the forested banks of the Rhône between Arles and Avignon, around what is now the town Tarascon (then called Nerluc or 'black place'), but lurked in the river and attacked the men trying to cross it, sinking boats.Image has a ship, not much to go on there. Could represent how it came from elsewhere and was brought to Paldea. There is a river, waterfall, and lake near the border area. "Black Place" could represent Area Zero as that's how it's represented on the map.
>There is also a brief notice on the tarasque which occurs in Gervase of Tilbury. Gervase assigns the habitat of the tarasque to be an abyss near the city-gates of Arles and the rock/cliff beneath the castle/fort at Tarascon. Not sure where this relates to in Kalos, but if we look at Paldea:
Abyss near the city-gates = Area Zero near Mesagoza?
Rock/cliff beneath the castle/fort = Part of the map near Kalos border? There are many cliffs here but no castle or fort. Maybe that would be part of the updated map?
Theory: It came from southern Kalos, caused havoc, and was driven to the crater to be sealed away.
Random name idea based on this info:
>Tera + Tarasque + Disc = Terasc / TerasqueOr maybe something with "don" at the end to match the other 2.
