>Gen 4Man I love Barry, he's really competitive and is usually one step ahead of you, actually struggled with him a few times especially in Canalave City. He also has a funny quirk. I don't consider Dawn/Lucas a rival
>Gen 5The first time it's multiple rivals with more or less equal standing, I like the dynamic between the mc and Cheren/Bianca, one of them is striving to become the best and strongest, another simply wants to find their place in the world and realize early on that they're not cut out for battling. Really realistic stuff and you see them actually grow and learn in BW2. Hugh doesn't feel much of a rival since he's mostly focused on Team Plasma but he got your back from time to time I guess.
>Gen 6A group of friends who all adventure at the same time, I feel like Shauna is the best here because she simply wants to have fun with her friends and doesn't really have a stake in it like Serena/Calem does. The other two kinda just feel outta place.
>Gen 7I really like Hau and Gladion, they play off each other well as total opposites. Hau has a very sunny disposition when it comes to battling whilst Gladion wants to be stronger to protect those close to him.
>Gen 8I don't really consider this a group, all the rivals in this game seem too isolated. Hop is a good friend and kinda reminds me of Barry in a way, Bede is the jerk rival but he sorta phases out of existence until the last stretch of the game. And Marnie is just there I guess.
>Gen 9A solid group of "rivals", I really enjoy Nemona and Arven the most. Can't really say much about Penny as a lot of her story is mostly Team Star itself.
