Both this and his area zero theme actually suck ass, outside of being a one and done experience.
The actual track beyond some interesting sounding synths is bland, good thing its not tied to a long drawn out experience eh?

Thats generally how most of his tracks do at best. And i wouldn't even say that applies to the majority; most of his work doesn't even have anything going for it that way.

I played through the whole game, enjoy the gameplay loop of pokemon, and felt rarely impressed by the OST. Most of the music is acceptable background white noise at best, grating and repetitive and making me want to leave the source of said music at worst.
I entered Area Zero and started bussin it down as the kids would say immediately.
Generally, I believe a lot of people share that sentiment.

Anon, Toby has gone on record multiple times that he's basically given free reign to compose as he likes. His compositions are then handed over to someone on the development team who translates them to music. The only real difference you'd hear between Toby doing it all by himself and what's going on now is the sound font. Always felt the Battle Tower theme he did in SWSH was terribly unfitting and lame, so not sure if I'll care for his music here whenever I get around to listening to the soundtrack

While I always felt he was a tad overrated I still really like his Undertale track so i especially felt it was strange how much I thought the Battle Tower theme was lame.

There's a video on youtube listing the music Toby worked on, but not sure what to think about the video, haven't seen any source from the video uploader for how he's sure Toby worked on those specifically.

Love the stuff he did for the last parts of the game.
However, the raid theme SUCKS ASS and should've been more like Area Zero or at least not so generic. Finally, a lot of the early game stuff is super forgettable.

Tobys really good at making emotional pieces to fit the story, but obviously with something as generic as pokemon there isnt much emotional leeway beyond "hype boss battle" and "happy Nemona theme". That said he nailed Area Zero and made it way more extraterrestrial feeling than Gamefreak could have done.
