Water > Fire = Water suffocates fire
Electric > Water = Water conducts electricity
Psychic > Fighting = Mind over matter
Dark > Psychic = Fear of the dark

So how does Fairy > Dark and Fighting? Or Flying > Fighting?

Have you ever punched something that's flying? It'll get knocked back a bit, sure, but then it more than likely just flies off like nothing happened. My experience with both birds and bugs.

I've always thought of this as one of the more sensible ones. Aerial objects and creatures are harder to strike [with punches and kicks], especially if they're moving or zipping around.

Dark is called Evil in Japanese.
Fairy is called Fairy in Japanese.
I'm pretty sure the thought process is:
Fairy beats Evil because Good > Bad
Fairy beats dragon because Cute/Moe Mythological creatures > Bestial/Nasty Mythological creatures (Nip logic)
Fairy beats Fighting because Magic > Brute Force.
BUT HOLD ON
Steel beats Fairy because... Brute Force > Magic???
No, it was because Steel only existing to be a supplementary type that gave a shit load of resistances to duel type Pokemon wasn't enough to justify it's existence.
Poison beats Fairy because Nasty > Cute??
AKA: The poison status effect wasn't enough to justify the type's existence.

Look the point I'm trying to make here is that in Japan Umbreon is called "Blacky" and it's type is "Evil" which I think is pretty based.

Fairy is strong against "cool" types like Dark, Fighting and Dragon because cuteness is justice. Fairy is weak to Poison and Steel because they are real weapons.

Fairy should mutually resist the elements, similar to Dragon's resistances, actually be weak to Fighting/Dark/Dragon because in fairy tales, evil wins until the hero shows up
Dunno what Fairy should be SE against
Dark and Dragon should be weak to Steel
