Most trainers their age don't go to school in other parts of the world anyways.

There's no urgency to any of the stories, they're just something to do on your Treasure Hunt. You don't HAVE to go become a Champion, that was just something Nemona wants you to do.
If you want incentive, then after you complete the Path of Legends Arven says you need to recruit more people before going to Area Zero, so you clearly need to pacify Nemona and Penny before they'll join.

I mean the whole Star story feels like it's ultimately saying, don't stand up to your bullies or you are a bully.
At first I thought they were making the team sympathetic to help give reason for the bad things they did... But then you learn they literally never attacked anyone and got their bullies to chicken out by standing their ground. They even dispell the idea the idea that the cars were designed as a physical threat, and say they were designed for Pokemon battles.
So it just makes Penny seem like a party pooper, not a concerned friend.

She's the weakest of the new rivals story-wise and I never really got the hype. She pops in every once in awhile. Gives you your shit, then leaves. Then you fight her.
Her theme really screams "BIG BOSS" and even though Clavell is tougher her battle won me over. Her dialogue in Area Zero is also entertaining.

By the start of the story all of Team Star was under threat of expulsion from Clavell because he didn't know how else to handle them. Getting expelled for standing up for yourself is the last thing Penny wanted to happen.

Team Star were about get expelled for skipping school and wouldn't tell anyone why they were acting out, Penny trying to disband the group using their their code of honor, since they were otherwise to loyal to the team and their leader was the only way she could see to keep them from ruining their lives
It's not like she could have known Clavell was genuinely an incredibly caring and responsible principle who would have been willing to help them all out if he knew the truth, after what they all experienced with the last administration and him threatening to expel them

Her friends were still following them because they believed in them and in each other. They all say they were waiting for their missing leader to return, but Penny said that she asked them to disband and they refused, hence Operation Starfall. They weren't listening to reason.

One thing I didn't like about the after story is it was like 'oh yeah these people they were already friends with will make them fit in' which is odd. It feels like it implied they didn't like people being slightly annoyed with their behavior, like shouting in a quiet area. When let's face it some people are just always not going to like you. Sure it worked out I guess but it's still dumb. Mela's story was pretty good and seemed the best of them along with eri starting a wrestling club.

Yes? That's literally how it starts. Cassiopeia says she'll pay you for crushing Team Star and doesn't empathize with the defeated leaders until much later. She doesn't even empathize with herself when she asks you to finish the job and defeat her as the big boss. Penny is outwardly cold and tries to hide her emotions.

I genuinely enjoyed Penny's genre aware commentary. I understand the game is for kids and as such the plots and shocking twists need to be watered down, but having someone go "alright, so whens the next monster gonna jump out" was a nice change of pace

They were truant for well over a year. Over the last 18 months you can argue they've learned nothing and probably even regressed in terms of their schooling and knowledge. They were basically outdoor camping neets. Trainers usually have a goal. Team Star had no goal. They didn't travel, collect badges, update their pokedex or do anything other than squat in their tents. When you walk up to Atticus's camp you got the drop on the entire camp because other than the lookout grunt everyone was oversleeping because they all stayed up all night playing video games.

At that point did we know Penny was a tech wizard? I didn't know Penny was a master hacker until I did Arven's quest before Victory Road or Op. Starfall and Penny's name came up as an option to recruit a tech guru.

Gonna be honest, I think making the Pokemon League, Evil Team, and Box Legendary 3 separate routes that only converged at the very end made all of them feel weaker. This is especially true of the league. Without any obstacles obstructing me, becoming a champion felt less earned than in previous games. Being able to do gyms in any order also made the story more generic, like Nemona only being able to list a gym's number that you visited it, since her dialogue is just copy pasted in the gym lobbies. Unique events didn't happen in the cities until you challenge the gym and even then they only tie to that particular gym's test, like Kofu forgetting his wallet.
