It also makes sense in Violet by virtue that she hates alteration of what she considers to be antique things, like how she hates the PokeBall in the academy top. She is obsessed with the Past, but she pleases herself with her own headcanon "what if" to fill the gaps of older history events rather than being content with the facts of more modern historic records. She is perfect to test out the capabilities of the so called wish granting pokemon, because she has enough imagination to make it work just like how Heath presumably did in his expedition.

It's just a shame that it's a nothing side quest because it's more interesting than anything that happens in the main story but it doesn't need to be connected to it
