It's the 3 year cycle that's the problem, which is enforced by TPC. GF expanded a lot, but it doesn't matter how big your studio is, 3 years for an open world game like this is too short. Consider that Sonic Team had 5 fucking years for Sonic Frontiers lol, BotW had 6+, Xenoblade 3 had 5 years, etc.
TPC's business model is built entirely around the 3 year cycle. Game Freak is the one actually making the Pokemon designs, region and character designs etc, and they use that to make the anime, merch, pokemon cards etc. So while you'd expect TPC to treat the pillar of the franchise with more care, they really just need GF to keep churning out games to make more anime, merch, and cards off of. The last time GF got to delay a game was GSC, and the anime created Orange Islands as a filler to make up for the delay.
