More importantly the area with the mysterious markings also documented in the book are also the spot where you find the "ace" of the paradox pokemon, moon and valiant respectively.
They arent going to bring your attention to things that arent related.
Here is what's going down
Theres an entity trapped somewhere, whether it's the past, future, another dimension is all irrelevant. But what it can do is reach out and touch the humans in the crater and manipulate their minds and behavior and it's doing this because it needs the humans to help manifest it into our present time and place.

Enter the professor, someone who is actually capable, and the entity creates an obsession within the professor and makes them think it's their dreams to open up this portal when in reality it's just the entity manipulating them.
That's why the AI has clarity despite being an exact copy of the professor it doesnt share the professors obsessive end goal. the AI isnt an organic human, the entities mind games dont work on it, its able to think logically and what we see is the professors true personality come out, a personality that regrets working so much and is loved arven but was unable to say or act appropriately because of the mind control.
